Birmingham’s largest art festival is back this month! The 41st Magic City Art Connection festival takes place on April 26-28th, 2024, at Sloss Furnaces National Historic Landmark. It features local and regional artists showcasing their work in various mediums – painting, sculpture, photography, and jewelry. Visitors can also enjoy Corks & Chefs: A Taste of Birmingham, Imagination Festival workshops for kids, two performance stages, a cafe, and more.
The Birmingham Botanical Gardens hosts seasonal events, including spring plant sales, gardening workshops, and educational programs focused on nature and conservation throughout the spring season. Their special event this month honors Earth Day and includes a free family yoga session on the Formal Lawn from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.
St. Elias Maronite Catholic Church will celebrate its 26th Annual Lebanese Food and Cultural Festival from 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM, April 12-13, 2024! Admission is FREE! Voted a Family Favorite by ‘Birmingham Parent’ in 2022, this festival highlighting Lebanese culture, food, and music is a blast for all ages! Entertainment includes music by New York-based Amin Sultan Lebanese band, a Silent Auction Room, and the 11th annual St. Elias Cedar Run 5K and Cedar Shake Fun Run. Since 1999, the festival has committed to donating 25% of its proceeds to local and national charities. Over $709,000 has been donated to local and national charities.
From spring to fall, the Pepper Place Saturday Market is a bustling farmers' market featuring local produce, artisanal foods, crafts, and live music. This rain-or-shine weekly event runs from January 27th through December 14th from 7 a.m. - 12 noon. All vendors are state-certified farmers. Since 2000, The Pepper Place Market has been committed to providing the Birmingham area community with fresh, accessible food choices.
On April 13th, 2024, from 12-4 pm, Ghost Train Brewing is hosting its 18th Annual Gumbo Gala! This spicy event has become one of the city’s most popular cooking competitions. Proceeds benefit Episcopal Place, which provides affordable, independent living for seniors and adults with disabilities.
Gardendale Civic Center is hosting the family-friendly Gardendale Magnolia Festival on April 19-20, 2024. Children can enjoy face painting, inflatables, a rock wall, pony rides, and sensory-friendly stations. There is also a midway carnival, vendor booths, three stages of live entertainment, a dog-friendly pooch parade, a 5K run/fun run, a classic car show, and much more.
Sloss Furnaces is hosting the Magic City Mimosa Festival, another great community event at their facility. Bars will be dishing out many refreshing mimosas while the DJ plays lively music. Guests can enjoy fun outdoor games, grab a bite from locally loved food vendors, or check out art vendors, all under the backdrop of historic Sloss Furnaces!
The 13th annual Bob Sykes BBQ and Blues Festival will combine the best of blues music and Birmingham BBQ on April 20th, 2024, from 12-8 pm at Debardeleben Park. Gates open at 11 am. Be sure to bring your chair or blanket and set up your spot for the day to enjoy talented blues musicians, artists, and other vendors.
